|As schools shift their technology plans into third phase results, planning groups will now need to consider organizing system elements in order to move the benefits from pilot projects into pervasive uses for all students. Grappling's with Accountability 2002 organizes these system elements into four basic areas called Four CornerStones. Each CornerStone is guided by a key essential question. All four questions along with their indicators requires equal support and resources in the technology planning and implementation work IF the technology benefits are to be scaled up and sustained for all students..
The MAPPing Ranking Guide provides detailed descriptors for each of the twenty-four indicator based on national research and benchmarks that document the essential ingredients for success in four areas: Readiness to Change; Teaching and Learning; Technology Deployment; and System Capacity. Groups may either formally collect data to determine each indicator's ranking or may use this ranking guide as a stand-alone to dialogue conclusions in informal data ranking processes like Conducting an Insta-Audit. Insta-Audits are 2-3 hour focus groups with stakeholders reflecting on designated indicators. Groups are asked to first highlight individually the phrases that best presently describe their school. They then combine their perspectives to determine the overall ranking of each indicator. The real value of this activity becomes the work of creating common understanding of what is needed to organize a school system for scaling and sustaining technology for visible benefits for all students.
The MAPPing Ranking Guide guides planning groups and their communities to collectively grasp the scope of work in planning and implementing. It enables them to develop a useable force-field analysis and develop a gap analysis for implementation strategies. The MAPPing Ranking Guide when used as a stand-alone tool will help leaders educate and mobilize groups to take action. It is also useful process for helping planning groups in early stages of determining their data collection needs as well as providing help in organizing reports from building visits or annual impact reports to school leadership.
